Every day you’re going to be faced with fashion do’s and don’ts. There are critics around every corner and on every soap box. I will be the first person to tell you to not listen to that crud. Do yourself a favour and ignore them. We’re being told not to wear this because it will make us look fat. Or not to wear a certain colour because it’s not good for our skin tone.
WHAT? This is not the true meaning of fashion! I’m here to help you out and give you the fashion do’s and don’ts you really need! Just so you know I love all of these but #20 is my favourite
#1 DON'T be afraid to break the "fashion rules." Remember...rules were meant to be broken loves!
#2 DO wear stripes! Wear them horizontally or vertically. Still not sold? Try them on shoes or your favourite accessories. Fashion via Nordstrom
#3 DON'T let fear get the best of your outfits. Fashion is supposed to be fun! Image courtesy of FreeDigitalPhotos.net
#4 DO wear bright colours and bold prints. Be daring! There's nothing to be scared of. Fashion via Mod Cloth
#5 DON'T let the size on the tag fool you. If it looks like it might fit you, try it on. Thanks to vanity sizing, sizes can be off! Image courtesy of FreeDigitalPhotos.net
#6 DO mix prints. Wear that polka dot tank or striped top with your floral skirt! Fashion via ASOS
#7 DON'T be scared to show some skin. Try the cut out trend, a crop or sheer top, or that leg-baring maxi dress. Fashion via Forever 21
#8 DO wear bright white. And lots of it! Never fear this color! Image courtesy of FreeDigitalPhotos.net
#9 DON'T criticize what other women are wearing. This is my major pet peeve! We need to support each other. Image courtesy of FreeDigitalPhotos.net
#10 DON’T: Tights as Pants Think of tights as an accessory. Would you ever wear a purse as a dress? Yeah, that’s what we thought.
#11 DON’T: Designer Logo-Palooza A small designer logo or emblem can be cute and classy, but never literally wear the brand name head-to-toe.
#12 DON’T: The Face Cape We’ll never again take for granted the ability to breathe and see while wearing clothes.
#13 DO layer mini dresses over jeans. Own a shortie that’s too skin-exposing for cold weather? In Seattle, they pair them with fitted jeans. Perfect for taking a stroll to (the original!) Starbucks. Comfy!
#14 DO keep the look casual Want to take a summery dress into fall? Ditch the flip-flops for a pair of cool boots, like Kate, Halle and Hilary. So Hollywood. *Basic boot rule They Don’t qualify as pants. Try leggings or sweater tights if you’re wearing a micro-mini. The shirtdress: a classic DO Why will it always be in style? Because you can dress it up for work and down for the weekend
#15 DO dress for the weather Sienna Miller and Dakota and Elle Fanning’s formula for staying warm at Sundance? Snuggly jackets, good jeans, cozy boots. Très chic!
#16 DO mix it all up Cool, colourful dresses, chic hairdos and fun footwear—Austin, Texas, we love y’all.
#17 DO go dressy in the daytime Listen up: Dresses aren’t just for parties and work! Ditch your jeans one Sunday, like these women in South Carolina did. *A dress for all shapes it’s flattering on practically every body type: the wrap.
#18 DON’T: no-shape suits It looks like she’s got a great body…somewhere in there.
#19 DO: black & white These women worked the trend in New York City. How to do it so you don’t look like a caterer: Go with a sexy low-cut blouse, accessorize with fun stuff like a snappy fedora or commit to just one colour! And lastly,
#20 DO wear whatever you want. You are a fashionistas and true fashion is for those who wish to express themselves through their clothing. Image courtesy of FreeDigitalPhotos.net Here's also my additional bits for you girls out there The Right Clothes for Your Body Type How to find the most flattering clothes for your shape Getting dressed is a whole lot easier when you know what pieces work best for your shape. Most women fall into one of four categories: circle (thick around the middle), triangle (larger at the bottom), hourglass (curvy but evenly proportioned), and rectangle (straight up and down). Here, three seasoned fashion experts―Simon Kneen, executive vice president of design for Banana Republic; Isaac Mizrahi, creative director of Liz Claiborne; and Bridgette Raes, author of Style Rx: Dressing the Body You Have to Create the Body You Want
Identify the four styles that fit each figure best.
If You’re a Circle
If You’re a Triangle
If You’re an Hourglass
If You’re a Rectangle
Dress for Your Shape: The Hourglass The Hourglass With an ample chest, a narrow waist, and full (but not wide) hips, this shape, although evenly proportioned, can seem as if it’s all angles. “Choose clothes that work and move with your natural curves, not against them,” says Raes. Styles to avoid: Shapeless or boxy styles, like baby-doll dresses, tunics, and oversize cardigans.
High-Waisted Pants This pair hits at the natural waistline, so it draws the eye to a thin middle.
Wrap Dress “A wrap creates a diagonal movement across the body that is really forgiving,” says Kneen.
V-Neck Top A close-fitting blouse with an open neckline flatters curves without exaggerating them
Pencil Skirt This classic silhouette works best on hourglass figures because it accentuates the waist and skims over the hips.
Dress for Your Shape: The Circle The Circle If you tend to gain weight around the middle (or you simply want to hide a few post-pregnancy pounds), clothes should fit loosely around the midsection (to conceal a full stomach) and more snugly elsewhere (to play up thin limbs). Styles to avoid: Anything that draws attention to the middle―like high-rise pants, belts, and waist-cinching tops.
Slim-Cut Pants Long and lean, these let trim legs take center stage. Pair them with a blousy top or a tunic.
Shift Dress “This structured style helps slim trouble areas―especially when worn with high heels,” says Mizrahi.
Empire-Waist Top A waistline that rests just below the bust will emphasize a narrow rib cage and camouflage the stomach.
The Rectangle With little definition at the waist, this straight-up-and-down figure is often considered boyish. Opt for styles that fit snugly at your middle but flare out at the bottom (whether it’s a skirt or pants) to create curves. Styles to avoid: Dresses that are tight all over and anything too flowy or unstructured around the waist, like Empire-waist top
Boot-Cut Pants A slim fit at the hips that graduates to slightly wider hems gives the impression of all-around shapeliness.
Fitted Jacket “A nipped-in blazer creates a waist and the appearance of fuller hips,” says Isaac Mizrahi, creative director of Liz Claiborne.
Feminine Top Ruffles and wispy sleeves add volume to the bust and shoulders, making the waist look smaller in comparison.
Flared Skirt A flouncy hem contrasted with a tapered waist gives the illusion of an hourglass
The Triangle The triangle shape is defined as shoulders and torso that are narrower than the hips. Styles to avoid: Shapeless, oversize sweaters; skinny jeans and pants; and skirts in a flimsy, curve-hugging fabric, like silk.
Find Wide-Leg Pants A dark pair slenderizes the thighs while creating a longer and slimmer silhouette.
Look for a Tailored Jacket A structured jacket plays up the shoulders, which evens out the lower body’s proportions.
Wear A-Line Skirts Its non-clinging design is a godsend. “Look for a tapered A-line to avoid appearing too triangular,” says Bridgette Raes, author of Style Rx: Dressing the Body You Have to Create the Body You Want
I hope all of this tips of do's and don'ts and how to dress in your figure will help you girls, remember to always embrace yourself, be fierce and always passionate in everything you do!
